Book a lesson

Tell me a little about the student and their goals, then choose a time from my calendar.

How booking works

  1. Tell me about the student

Send this short form. Your answers come to me, so I can prepare a first lesson that fits.

  2. Choose a time at least 48 hours ahead

Pick a slot from my calendar. I need at least 48 hours' notice to prepare properly.

  3. Confirm and pay

I'll email you to confirm the lesson time, with an invoice. Reply to confirm, and pay the invoice at least 24 hours before the lesson. Then your lesson is scheduled.

Please note: the first lesson is a full lesson at the standard rate, paid in advance. There is no free trial, but if I decide we're not a good fit, I'll refund the full cost of the lesson. If I haven't received your confirmation and payment at least 24 hours before the lesson starts, I reserve the right to cancel it.

If plans change

Life happens, so here is how changes to a paid first lesson work:

  • Need a different time? Let me know more than 24 hours before the lesson, and your full payment carries over to the new time as a credit.
  • Need to cancel altogether? Let me know more than 24 hours before the lesson, and I'll refund 50% of the lesson fee. The rest covers the time I've already spent preparing a lesson for the student.
  • Within 24 hours of the lesson, the lesson fee can't be refunded, because the time is reserved and the lesson prepared.
  • Running late? I'll wait up to 15 minutes for you to join. Lessons end at the scheduled time, so a late start means a shorter lesson. If you haven't joined or contacted me within 15 minutes, the lesson counts as missed and isn't refunded.
  • If I need to cancel, you'll receive a full refund or a new time, whichever you prefer.
  • If I decide we're not a good fit after the first lesson, I'll refund the full cost of the lesson.

If something comes up, it's always best to contact me as soon as possible. The earlier I know, the more I can do.

Your first lesson

The first lesson is a full, paid lesson. It's a chance for us to learn about each other, establish goals, and for me to assess the current level so I can adapt future lessons to the student's needs. We'll:

  • Get to know each other
  • Establish goals, and what success would look like
  • Assess the current level, strengths and difficulties
  • Learn how the student learns best, and what they're interested in
  • Find out whether we're a good fit

It may feel like a relaxed conversation, but I'm evaluating throughout, so I can build the plan for the lessons ahead.

Booking for a child or teen? Before you book, please make sure your child knows about the lessons and wants to take part. Students who choose to be there make real progress; students signed up without being asked usually don't. Talking it through together first makes all the difference. A parent or guardian also needs to be present for the first lesson. The lesson stays focused on the student, but it's a chance for you to see how I work and share anything I should know.

Lessons are US$75 per lesson hour, with discounts for packages. See rates. Not ready to book? Ask a question first.
